Mawashi (Re: On sumo lard, and other phat thangs.)

Oshizumo rikishi who prefer hitting and pushing without holding opponent's
mawashi tend to wear mawashi very tightly with spraying water on it. When
it is tightly fit, it is very difficult to put your fingers through or
under the mawashi to hold opponent with mawashi. The typical case is
Takatoriki. 

Yotsuzumo rikishi prefer wearing mawashi rather loosely. If you wear
mawashi very loosely, the opponent will have hardtime throwing you with
your mawashi. Extremecase is called "Yuru-Fun" (from Yurui Fundoshi).

When a rikishi lose his mawashi and the match, its kimarite is called
"Fujo-make".

In 1955, when Maegashira Kaizan challenged Ozeki Asashio, right after
Kaizan threw Asashio toward his back (utchari) on the edge of dohyo, Kaizan
lost his mawashi. Gyoji pronounced Kaizan's win, but a judge claimed that
since Kaizan lost his mawashi it should be Asashio's win with Kaizan's
"Fujo-make". All five judges was called on dohyo and discussed this issue,
but Kaizan's win still stands.

The reason was that it (lost of his mawashi) happened AFTER the match was over.

So I don't know when this type of incident happened most recently.

not AIDS) help rikishi to wear mawashi while rikishi standinding with

Most rikishi lose most of their pubic hair through both practice and matches.

Most expensive mawashi was $1.5 million kesho-mawashi for Wakashimazu
donated by a patron.
