Haridashi Eliminated! New Banzuke Format!

There apparantly is a change in the format of the Banzuke this time. I
originally thought that Akebono was listed as Haridashi, and in fact, his
entry is off to the right side of the Banzuke and separated from the rest
of the Higashi rikishi by a vertcal bar. Sure LOOKS like haridashi.
But Haridashi entries previously looked like little "tabs" or "ears" sticking
out from one or both sides of the Banzuke. The new size entries go all the
way to the top of the Banzuke without a little box cut out of the upper right
hand corner. I Guess a picture is worth a thousand words:

An article in Today's Asahi Shinbum explains that the Sumo Association wishes
to emphasize Akebono as the sole Yokozuna. Hey! That's what it says! The
headlines of the story are "Hashidari ga kieta" or "Haridashi Eliminated" and
"Hitori Yokozuna me data setai" or "Wish to emphasize sole Yokozuna".
This is an attempt to de-stigmatize the Haridashi area. Dewanoumi is quoted
as saying that they might return to the "old" format in the future. This is
the first change to the Banzuke format in 45 years!
Another reason given is that there are so many rikishi, that this new format
somehow saves space on the Banzuke. I'll try to get a better translation
of the article.
