Hokkaido rikishi
I am from Sapporo, Hokkaido. Hokkaido produced many many great rikishi in
Showa Era, such as:
Yokozuna: Yoshibayama, Chiyonoyama, (Wakanohana-I), Taiho, Kitanofuji,
Kitanoumi, Chiyonofuji, Hokutoumi
Ozeki: Nayoroiwa, Kitabayama, (Takanohana-I), Daiju, Hokutenyu
Probably I missed some of the great rikishi from Hokkaido, here.
In spite of this great tradition, it seems like there are only a few
rikishi from Hokkaido in sekitori, now. I would like to know who they are
and who the next great yokozuna from Hokkaido will be, if there is such a
tallent in the pool of rikishi from Hokkaido, following the great tradition
of Taiho, Kitanoumi and Chiyonofuji.
I think Kushu (including Okinawa) and Tohoku area (Aomori, Iwate, Akita,
Miyagi, Yamagata and Fukushima) are the area tipically produced great
rikishi following the leader Hokkaido.
For today, it seems US and Tokyo are two of the area producing great
rikishi for Sumo Kyokai.
If there any list of rikishi based on the area they are from?
