Haru Basho: Day 13

Hopefully the people over here will straighten out the mail. Sorry for
the messy-looking posts, but it's not from this machine, at least.

I won't be able to post the results of the weekend until Tuesday. I'll
be out at an onsen, watching the finals and soaking in the rotemburo!

On with the show:

Winners: Losers: Technique:
-------- ------- ----------

Kotobeppu 8-5 Kiraiho 8-5 yorikiri
Tokitsunada 7-6 Toyonoumi 5-8 yorikiri
Hamanoshima 7-6 Daishoyama 3-10 yoritaoshi
Higonoumi 7-6 Kotofuji 7-6 yorikiri
Kenko 8-5 Kotoinazuma 5-8 uwatenage
Kirishima 7-6 Mainoumi 5-8 tsuridashi
Kasugafuji 6-7 Asanowaka 7-6 oshidashi
Oginishiki 8-5 Akinoshima 9-4 abisetaoshi
Aogiyama 4-9 Daishoho 2-11 hatakikomi
Takamisugi 5-8 Mitoizumi 3-10 okuridashi
Terao 8-5 Kitakachidoki 5-8 hatakikomi
Konishiki 7-6 Wakashoyo 4-9 yorikiri
Kaio 9-4 Takatoriki 10-3 yorikiri
Kotonowaka 5-8 Daizen 4-9 okuritaoshi
Misugisato 6-7 Tochinowaka 3-10 yorikiri
Musoyama 7-6 Tomonohana 4-9 oshidashi
Kotonishiki 10-3 Takanohana 10-3 yoritaoshi
Takanonami 11-2 Kyokudozan 3-10 kimedashi
Akebono 10-3 Musashimaru 9-4 yorikiri

Kotonishiki pulls off a big one and topples Takanohana, dashing
the Ozeki's hopes for making Yokozuna (maybe) after this basho.
Takanonami gets a breather against the failing Kyokudozan and
gets the lead all to himself. But tomorrow he's up against
Akebono, who has beaten him 9 of 10 matches. Musashimaru was
not up to the challenge today as Akebono got his mawashi and
forced out the new Ozeki.

Congrats to Kotobeppu, Kenko, Oginishiki and Terao who got their
kachi-koshi today. Daishoyama hurt his left ankle as he fell
in his loss, and couldn't get up on his own power. Looks like
he won't be out tomorrow. Mitoizumi was hobbling around during
his bout: it hurts to watch him. Kirishima did a great job of
picking up the feisty Mainoumi and then toss him out of the
ring. Kirishima may get to stay in Makuuchi....
