Well, Konishiki came out to play (though not very well), so a
case of Sapporo's to Tony Austin. He was the only one who
challenged my position that Konishiki wouldn't fight this time.
So, Tony, when are you coming here to pick them up?

A couple of early surprises as Takanonami and Wakanohana lose on
Day 1. Takanonami was even more defensive than usual, and didn't
try to win. Wakanohana wasn't even on the dohyo from the neck
up, and Kaio blew him away.

Musoyama was very strong and quickly pushed out the bigger
Kotonowaka. Kotonishiki lacked some of his normal early vigor,
but still had no real trouble with Wakashoyo. Musashimaru was
strong, but missed a shot on Misugisato. He recovered well,
though, and came back to shove him out. Takanohana handled
Daizen fairly easily, as the new komusubi gets the chance to
see what he's worth. Akebono quickly disposed of the pesky
Tochinowaka to even their personal series at 6-6.
