|I believe Musoyama came from college about a year or so ago (where he was
|the college champion) and hasn't had time to grow his hair long
|enough for the traditional style yet. I think the sumo association
|makes an exception (at least for college champions) about how far up
|the sumo ladder they must start, and as a result if the wrestler is good
|he can make it to the top division faster than he can grow his hair!
|
|Some years ago (approx. 20 yrs) another promising rishiki
|had to fight his first few basho's with the same short hairstyle.
|His name was Wajima and he also came out of the college ranks. As I recall
|he went on to be a fairly successful Yokozuna(Grand Champion).
