|Subject: Day 9 Results & Day 10 Lineup
|
|If David's posted Day 9 results, I've not seen them yet, so here 'tis.
|There was an error in my posts yesterday: I had Konishiki's record this
|basho as being 3-5 when he was in fact 4-4. Moshi wake arimasen.
|
|I've tried to compensate for the "|" inserted by the mailer, let's hope
|it's a bit more readable than yesterday's stuff was.

|The Sumo Kyoukai announced prize money increases. As of next year's Hatsu
|Basho, Yuushou winner will receive 10 million yen (up from 5 million).
|Sanshou prize winners will receive 2 million yen (up from 1 million). Not
|bad: at the current exchange rate that makes a yuushou worth almost US$95K!
|
|Akebono said of his Day 9 loss to Musashimaru that since he always won
|kenko bouts against him that he was overconfident, but shou ga nai, and he
|was just thinking about the next day's match.
|
|For his match against Akebono, Takatouriki started from as far back on
|the dohyou as possible, then came blasting forward while Akebono stood
|his ground. He knocked the Yokozuna back a step, but then the
|tsuppari of Akebono knocked the momentum out of Takatouriki. For a
|moment it looked like Akebono was going to get an oshidashi, but then
|Takatouriki fought back from the edge of the dohyou, only to be pulled
|down by Akebono in a hatakikomi. After the match Takatouriki said he felt
|starting from as far back as possible almost worked, but it wasn't quite
|enough.
|
|
|New notation: [J] after a rikishi's name means they're a Jyuuryou wrestler
|up in Makuuchi for the day.
