|Subject: Day 8 Results
|
|I haven't seen David Riley's Makuuchi Day 8 Results here yet, so I'll post
|what I have. For that matter I don't remember if the Day 7 results made
|it; if not, let me know and I'll post those as well.
|
|Numbers after the Rikishi's names are their record so far this basho. The
|number in brackets at the end is the record of their Makuuchi matches
|together. Winners are marked with a "*".
|
|
|Day 8
|=====
|
|Kitakachidoki* (5-3)	Musouyama (4-4) (Oshidashi)	[1-1]
|Daishouyama (3-5)	Tamakairiki* (4-4)	(Yorikiri)	[3-1]
|Minatofuji* (5-3)	Tokitsunada (3-5)	(Yoritaoshi)	[1-1]
|Daizen* (6-2) Kasugafuji (5-3)	(Okuridashi)	[1-3]
|Higonoumi (3-5) Oginishiki* (4-4)	(Yorikiri)	[0-2]
|Toyonoumi* (3-5)	Kyokudouzan (3-5)	(Kimedashi)	[9-7]
|Tochinowaka* (5-3)	Kaiou (6-2) (Yorikiri)	[1-0]
|Kiraihou* (5-3) Terao (3-5) (Hikiotoshi)	[1-1]
|Kenkou (3-5) Kotobeppu* (4-4)	(Yorikiri)	[1-2]
|Kotoinazuma (3-5)	Wakashouyou* (5-3)	(Ketaguri)	[3-3]
|Oginohana (0-8) Takamisugi* (2-6)	(Oshidashi)	[3-8]
|Takatouriki (2-6)	Daishouhou* (4-4)	(Tsukitaoshi)	[2-6]
|Kushimaumi* (3-5)	Akinoshima (3-5)	(Kotenage)	[6-6]
|Takanonami* (6-2)	Kotonowaka (3-5)	(Yorikiri)	[7-3]
|Misugisato (3-5)	Kotonishiki* (6-2)	(Yorikiri)	[6-2]
|Takanohana* (4-4)	Kirishima (2-6) (Yorikiri)	[8-5]
|Konishiki (3-5) Tomonohana* (4-4)	(Shitatanage)	[0-1]
|Mainoumi (5-3) Wakanohana* (6-2)	(Uwatenage)	[1-6]
|Akebono (7-1) Musashimaru* (6-2)	(Tsukiotoshi)	[8-3]
|
|
|That's right, Akebono blew his chances for zenshou! And against somebody
|he should have taken fairly easily. It looked to me like one of his
|tsuppari blows missed, carrying him forward slightly off-balance, just as
|Musashimaru stepped to the right. Akebono did a pretty good job of trying
|to recover, but Musashimaru was there to push him down from the
|side/behind. The crowd went nuts and the cushions were flying (I guess
|it's easier to do after the last match (^_^)).
|
|Both Taka and Waka had drawn-out matches. Takanohana is looking a little
|more genki than at the beginning of the basho, but he's just not able to
|put people away like he usually can.
|
|Oginohana is still unable to come up with his first win, giving him a
|makekoshi already. He fought hard against Takamisugi, but looked *really*
|dispirited when he finally got pushed out.
|
|Note that we now have *6* rikishi tied for second place (6-2), including
|the sainyuumaku rikishi Kaiou.
|
|
