Re: Sumo Salaries
Regarding Sumo Salaries:
A Yokozuna gets an 8,200 dollar salary. Ozeki $6,800. Actually since the
yen has soared it's probally more.
Sumo rikishi get other compensation, i.e. bucks, from dozens of direct and
indirect sources.
Akebono gets about $25,000 bonus for each tournament he participates in.
Another $40,000 for each one he wins. $300 or so for each match he wins in
the tournament.
About $10,000 dollars for an autographing party, $24,000 more for
ceremonial sumo at a Shinto Shrine.
Fans also donate money and it is said that after a vitory as Yokozuna,
Chiyonofuji was giving 160,000 dollars..
For a fan club to take a Sumo out to dinner it's another $5,000.
When a Yokozuna retires he gets about $250,000 to $500,000 bonus plus the
proceeds to his retirement ceremony which can reach as high as $800,000.
All this goes to the Yokozuna who was the cream of the crop.
I don't know what a lower form of life could make.
