Dear Sumo fans another intro to forward and two more members to welcome to
the ML. Tim is back again with a different address, so hopefully we won't
get stuff bouncing back from him anymore. Also welcome Eric, to this sumo
digest of the internet. Remember if you want to post to this mailing
list, you don't have to go through me, just use your "reply" function and
then choose the "post to everyone" or "post to group" default that comes
up. Always try using the latest posting like this, that has welcome
messages, as they will always contain, the full list of all those wanting
to be on this ML. Waka's still looking good, although I'd like to see a
Waka, Taka, Aka(poetic license) three way tie, as I almost saw a tie
between those three, and have always wondered how they decide a basho
with, such an occurrence (question directed to all those who are well up
on the finer rules of sumo).
Yoroshiku, Pete Kaub.

Please forward this to all, Pete.
My turn for an introduction? Well, my previous username on USENET was
frisbee@aegis.kyoto.or.japan.or.something around spring 1991-early 92
when I went all out trying to do sumo reports. I was even about to set up a
sumo mailing list, but my local BBS went down and it was months later
before I resurfaced on a different BBS with access to the Internet.
I've been in Japan since 1983 (as a college student then) and was taken by
sumo from Day 1. (That's how I learned Japanese...a lot of good sumo terms
have done me in daily life: "Oh, you like sumo? Who's your favorite?"
"Yappari Akebono." No reaction. "But I also like the small guys--Mainoumi,
Kyokudozan, Tomonohana." "Yoku shiteru ne.")
I recognize some of the names on the mailing list (thanks for sending me
mail at one time or another). Sorry if I'm intermittent. Other things in life
sometimes take over. Also, I am still paying for email in both directions
(about 40 cents/k over 25k/month). In a few months it should become free
again.
