Re: The "retired" Yokazuna - the straight dope!

Richard
Hi there! Thanks for the response. How about posting it to
the group though? I am sure none of us mind people being
less than certain about what they post, especially if they admit
it! After all, I think it is supposed to be quite a "fun" group,
and really hope that we can keep it all on a nice, small, cosy
basis and so hopefully we will not get involved in flame wars!

Yes, this is just about what I had heard - very annoying, just
enough to get you really interested in the possibility of some
serious gossip, but nothing to follow it up - no juicy details!
I must admit that the story I heard was that 1 of them had pushed
their own wife around, but thinking about it, your version seems
much more plausible - I cannot really see any Japanese wife reporting
such an event to the press.
The other thing I heard was that one of them was involved in gambling.
But again, a tantalising bit of info, leaving one desparate to know more!
This seemed a bit strange - again, who would "spill the beans" on
a Yokazuna? I would have thought that if, eg., he got into trouble
financially, with the Yakuza (talking of which, it always strikes me
that the hair-do's they give retired wrestlers is a dead ringer for
the Yakuza style - Yokazuna to Yakuza with the snip of the scissors
:-) ) that the Sumo Association would bail him out, and try
to keep it very hush hush. I mean, Japan is hardly the most
open society in the world, and my guess is that even if the
press had got hold of the info, the Association would have been
able to supress it. What do you think?
Anyway, please feel free to post this reply to the group. I will
give you the option, since it is your post at the head, but as I
say, I think (hope?) most people would enjoy the discussions?!

With best wishes
