|> I must say that the tournament was a lot of fun. There were lots of cheers
|> for Akebono, Konishiki, and Takanohana. Other popular rishiki included the
|> dimunitive 211 pound Mainoumi and Mitoizumi (the "Salt Shaker"). The three
|> matches that really stand out (to me) were the Mainoumi-Kotoinazuma,
|> Kasugafuji-Kotonishiki, and the first Akeboni-Konishiki match. Mainoumi was
|> much quicker than Kotoinazuma allowing him to side step and spin around
|> Kotoinazuma. After spinning the larger Maegashira around, Mainoumi was able
|> to push his opponent out of the dohyo. The Kasugafuji/Kotonishiki was the
|> shortest one of the day. After much posturing, Kasugafuji charged at
|> Kotonishiki. Kotonishiki took one step to the left and Kasugafuji went plop
|> on his face. The Akebono-Konishiki match was eagerly anticipated by the crowd
|> who hoped to see the two biggest rishiki do battle. When the match started,
|> the entire arena was illuminated by dozens of camera flashes. Konishiki was
|> able to push Akebono to the edge of the dohyo but Akebono refused to budge
|> any farther. Akebono was able to push Konishiki a couple of feet back
|> towards the center of the ring before Konishiki was finally able to bulldoze
|> Akebono out of the dohyo.
|>

|> WINNER Day 2) Konishiki
|> TOURNAMENT WINNER) Akebono
|>
|> Outstanding Performance Award) Wakanohana
|>
|> Fighting Spirit Award) Takanonami
|>
|> Technique Award) Mainoumi
