Re: [sumo] While we're on the Taka subject, you MUST see this

Well for strictly going off steroids, you won't lose
so much fat. Takanohana used to weigh around 150 kg
and up to 160 kg and now weighs 90 kg.

Remember these guys gulp down anywhere from 12,000 to
15,000 calories a day with all those protein shakes
and beer along with bowls and bowls of rice with
chanko.

Takanohana is cutting down to a meal a day with a
daily regimen of around 1,000 calories a day so it's
no wonder he is losing so much weight.

I saw a feature on him when he was doing a rehab from
his knee injury. As he did not want to be seen, he
constructed a personal gym in his place and worked out
up to 8 hours a day (actually the footage was taken by
his wife, former Fuji TV anchorperson doing a
commentary). So I'd imagine it was the same this time
around and now he is in Nagoya, he is working out with
his deshi at their camp.

His losing weight is no accident, it's all well
planned by himself and his wife (I know he is cutting
down on carbs and refined sugar to almost zero, just
digesting mostly veggie diet - he was shown eating
only a a small amount veggies from chanko pot at the
heya.) Despite his physical appearence, I'd bet he is
healthier than 99% of guys his age.

While at it, I should mention his older brother not
losing so much weight and perhaps this has to do with
his venture in restaurant business. He will be opening
his 7th Chanko store in Shinjuku next month (he had to
delay the grand opening by several days so he can get
in the burial ceremony for his father on July 3).
Masaru Hanada was not much of football player or even
a decent "TV talento" but he turned out to be a good
restaurant owner.

His chanko stores in Tokyo are all in the posh
distrcts - Roppongi and Shibuya and are very
successful. His former sumo buddies who also went into
chanko business after their retirement are all amazed
at his business acumen (of course his name recognition
helps too but remember Akebono failed miserably doing
this).

Also remember Chanko hotpots are normally cold weather
food but to open a new store in the middle of hot and
sticky Japanese summer, he must be really convinced
that he could make it to go and so far he has been
proved to be every bit correct.

Just get back to the next target date again for these
two - it will be July 3. It's the 49th day ceremony
after his father's death and they will perform the
burial ceremony at a temple in Tokyo. Currently the
oyakata's cremated remains is with Takanohana in
Nagoya as he never returned it to his brother after
the Kyokai Memorial service so either Takanohana has
to take it with him and go back to Tokyo or Masaru
Hanada has to come over to Nagoya to pick it up from
his brother before the ceremony. So far they have not
spoken to each other at all. Masaru kept his silence
since the funeral service while Takanohana dominated
live TV shows since then, yapping away like an
obsessed dachshund.

So stay tuned.
