RE: [sumo] More WakaTaka after the Kyokai Service
And they said Asashoryu was a disgrace and not yokozuna-like?
I think Takanohana should be expected to uphold the dignity of yokozuna
irrespective of the fact that he is retired.
You know, after his retirement, and when I first witnessed him as a shinpan,
I thought it was because of shyness that he didn't socialize with the other
shinpan in the hanamichi while waiting to approach the dohyo for their
sessions. Ditto, when he was ALWAYS (and still usually is) the last shinpan
- excruciatingly so - to get onto the dohyo for a mono-ii, while the others
stood there waiting impatiently; or when he never participated in the
discussions of mono-ii unless he were asked directly by one of the other
shinpan. Now I know it was just arrogance and the prima donna factor. Of
course, now he does participate, but mostly just barely and seemingly
reluctantly.
You rarely saw this on TV since all the shinpan have a couple or three
stints a day as judges with an occasional day off. But, I am speaking from
watching sumo every single day of 4 of the 6 basho, and 10 days of another,
from around 11AM or so.
Not a nice development for someone who was the epitome of hinkaku - or was
that also arrogance all along?
