[sumo] Sumo TV Ratings
I just checked the TV ratings and they had three days
over 10% - of course just telling you the numbers
don't mean you anything but the top rating getter for
the week was a marathon broadcast with 15%.
Sumo ratings are always difficult to compare as most
rating winners are in the prime time hours like one of
the mini-series drama on TV Asashi had 28% last week.
Even comparing against the last basho is not that
relevant either as there were several international
sports live broadcast during the week that skewed the
results and for the Nagoya they go against baseball
broadcast.
So I looked at the last year's and compared against
this year's. The records are for Kantou Region that
includes Tokyo and from Video Research Ltd (they only
list top 10 programs in each category for general
public. This is from Sports category.)
This year:
Day 6 14.1%
Day 7 11.2%
Day 8 10.3%
(the top sports program was the Tokyo International
Marathon with 15.8%.)
Last Year:
Day 4 18.8 %
Day 7 12.9 %
(the top sports program was Tokyo International
Marathon with 27.4%.)
So not that conclusive - this year we have three in
the top 10 but last year the ratings were much higher
but then there may be more people watching TV as
indicated by the top rating getter.
Incidentally the last Kyushu we had Tochiazuma winning
the Yusho and on Day 6 Musashimaru retired.
