[sumo] Heya Notebook: Kitanoumi Beya Oct 2004

Russian giant Sandanme Ourora, 21, weighed in 245 kg
at a regular physical on August 24, and is now the
second heaviest rikishi ever recorded in sumo history.
The top place is still retained by Konishiki who
recorded 285 kg in March 1996.

Here is a trivia for you. Who did Ourora surpassed to
get him to the second place?
A hint: He was a Takadagawa Beya rikishi and weighed
241.5 kg in September 1991.

However Ourora realizing he is not going on the right
direction and started on a diet. Here's a man who
could eat 20 adult servings of BBQ meat dinner in one
sitting and still not feeling totally full.

"I now only eat carbs like rice only till noon. So I
don't eat any carb for dinner. I feel I am lighter and
can move forward better," Ourora said. During the Aki
Basho he says he lost about 5 kg and he thinks that is
one reason he won five bouts. His target is 200 kg, he
says. But the question is by when.

"The Kyushu Basho? No way! That's just impossible. 40
kg is just like one girl physically disappearing from
you," Ourora said laughingly.

Former Middle School Yokozuna and Kinki University
grad Jonidan West 79 Sugita, 22, almost won the
Jonidan Yusho at the Aki Basho. He went against
Mihogaseki Beya's Satoyama (formerly of Nihon
University), both with six wins at the time. Sugita
got his mawashi pulled up to his chest and lost by
shitate-nage finally. Both are the graduates of well
known college sumo clubs and the fans cheered for
their efforts.

"I need to train much more," Sugita said.
