On a new topic, a couple years ago, while eating suchi at Tama Sushi
on
Ventura Blvd, I was intrigued by the tea cups. Katsu-san explained
that
they had the names of all the yokozuna. He gave us one, and I scanned
it
in. The image is available at:

I hope to be able to read some of it some day.

Don't know if you meant to understand the kanji or just to get the
names listed, but here is a start....

If you refer to any of the on-line lists of yokozuna (eg.
http://w1.858.telia.com/~u85811045/yokozuna.htm), you can make a
start.

The list starts in the upper right (of your scan) with Akashi and ends
in the lower left with Takanohana. The kanji above the names are the
birthplace (left column) and yokozuna number (right column).
Therefore for Takanohana, you have Tokyo and 65th (generation) above
Takanohana Koji. As Wakanohana isn't on the cup, you know the cup was
produced between 11'94 and 5'98.

Hope that helps a little.

Neat cups by the way. Thanks for sharing with the group.
