If you like slot machines the nickels and quarters have the best odds.
Penny slot have (by far) the worst odds. Dollar machines are better
than pennies.
Best odds at the Craps table is the "Don't Come" line, but you'll make
less than minimum wage betting on it.
If you card count at Blackjack the dealer will shuffle the deck every
few hands...or you can wind up with an 8 deck shuffle. Dealers can spot
card counters the first time the betting pattern shifts. A good card
counter can make as much as 50 cents an hour.
The Big 6 or Wheel of Fortune games are sucker bets. Don't bother
unless you like losing at carny games.
Casinos love players with "systems". Floormen can spot system players
in a few minutes. It should get you at least a free drink, maybe dinner
if you play the system long enough. Betting systems really do work.
The catch? Table limits kick in before you make the big payoff.
Floormen will not let you bet over table limits, no matter what you've
seen on TV.
The Cirque du Soleil shows are very popular, though some are adult only.
Best local show is Clint Holmes. If you like to eat, the buffet at the
Rio is one of the best in town, but the line for it is long (it does
move fast). Off strip one of the better japanese style sushi/seafood
buffets is Makinos (Flamingo at Decatur). If you like variety the
Splash show at the Riviera isn't too bad. Right now the hottest show in
town is Celine Dion. If you like old rock and roll the Orleans and the
Suncoast casinos usually have some famous name in on the weekends (Bill
Medley, Neil Sedaka, Frankie Avalon, etc.).
The good news is the election will be over soon. Thursday President
Bush, Laura Bush, and John Kerry were all in town at separate
conventions and rallies. Traffic was a nightmare while some of the
major roads were shut down in the middle of the day.
And by long standing tradition: casinos do not have clocks; don't bring
a camera into the gaming area; and celebrities in restaurants or the
casino floor should be left alone. State law also requires you to check
your guns if you go into a bar, casino, or church (don't laugh, there
are a few counties in Nevada where it is still the Wild West).
