[sumo] [spoiler] Nagoya jungyo tourney results
The tournament was divided into blocks of six wrestlers. Winner of each
block progressed to the next block. The final block was comprised of
Asashouryuu, Asasekiryuu, and Takanowaka. Asashouryu won the title for
the second straight year (third in all), beating both by yorikiri. He
met Kotomitsuki (who beat him to win the one -day tournament on the 6th)
in the first "block" and beat him by uwatenage. KaioU and Musouyama (out
there despite his injury..) were each beaten in their first "block".
Block that led to the finals:
Takanowaka beat Rohou by Yorikiri
Asa beat Mickey by Uwatenage
Sekiryuu beat Musouyama by Utchari.
Purse- 3,00,000 yen, approximately $27,000, + sirloin of local cow (飛騨
牛のロース, anybody?), and 758 portions of kishimen.
Apparently, Asa saw the DVD of "The Day After Tomorrow" the other day.
"The next day, we had that typhoon and I had the feeling that the movie
was becoming a reality", he joked. "Last Basho wasn't satisfactory, so I
thought today was my chance to do better. My body is really moving
well." When asked about his failure to make it 5 straight yushos last
basho, he responded," Let's not talk about the past any more. The future
is what counts. This coming Basho, it will be very important to me to
regain the yusho".
Words aimed at KaioU, no doubt.
In Juryo, Kasugaou won it.
