[sumo] Re: (semi sumo) Las Vegas note
I lived in Las Vegas part time for over 20 years up to 1996. My companion
and I loved it when we first leased a home, then purchased a condo in
Spanish Trail when it was first built.
My first impression of the valley, in 1980, was of a beautiful oasis in the
desert with a concentration of neon lights - a small city with little or no
humidity. After a while, and a significant expansion of Las Vegas proper
with the concomitant explosion of population and autos, a definite air
pollution factor was evident flying into McCarran Airport. As the number of
developments grew, so did the humidity, although not to the levels seen in
NYC in the summer. I left the home in Las Vegas in 1996, although I loved
the town, because the air quality deteriorated so much.
If you fly to LAX, you can see the same haze of brown over that city, too.
No flames, please. I will go to the jungyo and actually miss Vegas, but
sometimes I think on a clear day, the air is cleaner in my native NY.

Question for Casinoshima or anyone else who lives there:
My sister lives in Arizona, so I always drive into Las Vegas from the dam
and Boulder City. Have you ever come over the hill from Boulder City in the
last 10 years and seen the big brown cloud hanging over the valley? It
looks thick enough to walk on. I first noticed it in 1997 after not
visiting Las Vegas for about 15 years. Must be all those retirees polluting
the air:-)
Seriously, does anyone have any information about the air quality there?
Not that it will keep me away, the jungyo is only 3 days.
