The Danpatsu Ceremony of the 67th Yokozuna
Musashimaru, 33, was held at the Kokugikan on October
2 and 260 people including the chair of the Kyokai
Kitanoumi oyakata participated in the cutting.
Musashimaru won 12 Yushos, the most by a foreign
rikishi.

The ceremony included his last yokozuna 'Unryu' style
dohyo-iri, accompanied by Tachimochi Musoyama and
Tsuyuharai Miyabiyama, Sumo Jinku songs, "Tsunashime"
(yokozuna rope making) demonstration and even a
Hawaiian Hula dance.

When his heya's sekitoris, Musoyama, and Wakanoyama
came up to do their cut, Musashimaru oyakata struggled
to hold off his tears.

"I've done training with them close to 20 years and I
started remembering those days," Musashimaru oyakata
commented later. After Musashigawa oyakata made the
last cut, he received a bouquet of flower from his
mother.

"I had long hair for 15 years so it's been while I had
the short look. I guess now it won't take so much time
to wash it, right," said the oyakata looking at his
new hair style in the mirror.

The oyakata still weighs around 230 Kg, about the same
weight as when he was active. "Well I'd like to drop
it to 200 Kg or so but I am still working out so it's
not that easy. I am really happy that I could do this
like how I wanted. Now I'd like to teach 'Endurance'
to the recruits," Musashimaru oyakata said.

The oyakata will be working at Musashigawa Beya, help
developing the new rikishis.
