Re: [sumo] Las Vegas Jungyo
I don't know if it would make sense to bet on a Jungyo. It isn't real
sumo. It is sumo for fun and to encourage more people to become fans.
I doubt that there would be any matches thrown for the sake of betting
in Las Vegas, but I have yet to see many rikishi put all of their
heart and energy into exhibition sumo. Perhaps they do for the lower
divisions. But from my limited experience (seeing an exhibition on
Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture, 2001), I don't think that a
rikishi's performance during a regular basho would be a reliable
indicator of how they will perform during an exhibition bout. At least
I wouldn't want to bet money on it....
But I too am excited about the bout in Las Vegas and hope that I can
make the trip from San Diego next year.
