I also wish there had been better publicity about the
China tour -- I'm living only about an hour or two
from Shanghai now and would have loved to attend this
week's matches there, but I didn't find out about it
until a few days ago (on this list), too late to
rearrange my classes.  I've mentioned sumo to some of
my (university) students before and shown them some
pictures, and I've found that, in general, nobody
knows anything about sumo -- maybe even less than in
the US.  So I'm impressed that it drew such a large
crowd in Beijing!

I've also found that, in general, many people here are
quite interested in Japan and want to know more about
the customs, language, culture, etc (even though most
of them still regard the Japanese with some suspicion
and animosity).  Maybe sumo will become the next
bridge between the two countries!
