As promised, the NSK has released the results of the poll they had last basho, asking random spectators to answer a few questions concerning the allowing of women on the dohyo. The voices who were in favor of continuing the ban were numerous (71%).

I suppose as a very long time tradition, it's hard to break something
like this. Oh, but the number of men and women taking part were very
roughly equal (~43% women so ~57% men) which is good.

To other questions like "Do you think it's right to have a Sumo- like society", the large majority responded in the affirmative.

That many people would like to see society in general work like a sumo
stable? I find that rather odd, but maybe it's just me.

Probably my fault, but I think what they meant was "Does a Sumo-like society (with all its rules and traditions) have a right to exist within its rules".
