I think Joe has got it very right here.

The value of the return against the investment required is far too small for all those corporations still using "slash and burn" tactics to trim operating costs. It is indeed the public that the Kyokai needs back in droves,
and nothing that the "geniuses" at Dentsu have come up with will do anything on that score.

If my recollection is correct Dentsu usually charges anywhere between 25 and 30 percent for its "services" - to use that term loosely - so it is easy to see who the winners would be IF there are any companies out there who are as stupid as the current Kyokai leadership and fall for it. But I doubt there are very many of them - the really stupid ones have long since vanished.

Interesting explanations from Greg and Joe. I still think everything notwithstanding, it's a step-perhaps in the wrong direction, but still a step. And I don't share the bleak pessimism either. The masses will come when the sumo will be fun. If we see anything like we saw last Basho, and Asa continues his streak, we'll see less and less empty seats. The masu seats, as Joe pointed out, will remain empty, since a good portion of them are never put on sale to the masses anyway. If they can fill even a part of them with this new venture, great..
But, we shall se..
