[sumo] [spoiler] Stories from Jungyo and others
Jungyo in full swing. New Juryo promotees Hagiwara (17) and Bulgarian
Kotooushuu are already being called the Ake-Taka of the future, as both
are seen as prospective Yokozunae. Today Hagiwara went 12-0 against
Makushita opponents. Then, for the first time in a semi-official
capacity, he, together with Kotooushuu, joined the Juryo guys as well.
Hagiwara was 5-7, Kotooushuu 4-3. Suddenly, a voice from the dark.
Asashouryuu called them over and gave them advice, then was heard
yelling at them, "Don't suppress your strength at the edge of the dohyo,
else you may be injured!!". He "lent his chest" at butsugari -geiko to
Kotooushuu. "You've got to push harder, otherwise it's no good!", he
said unto him. It is indeed an unusual occurence where a Yokozuna gives
"advice" to Juryo rikishi that do not belong to his own heya. "I am
deeply grateful", said Hagiwara of this.
Asashouryuu himself had 13 bouts. He was seen throwing Kakizoe around,
and this time Futenoo was the recipient of the Tsuriotoshi special. The
day before was Asa's daughter's birthday, and he personally cooked a
yakisoba dinner at home on this occasion.
"Whenever she sees me on TV she claps her hands and shouts 'banzai'" he
said, proudly.
The Chinese jungyo will be held on June 6th in Beijing and June 9th/10th
in Shanghai. A small contingent will leave for China next week
(13th-15th). It will include Kitanoumi Rijicho, other officials, and
Tamanoshima and Tokitsuumi who will be doing some demonstration Sumo as
PR for the upcoming Jungyo, and of course the usual round of press
conferences.
