Sure I would. I would call them both ballplayers. (Or was that too
predictable for you?) A cricketer is a certain type of ballplayer, and a
baseballer another type of ballplayer.

Personally, I would call them both budoka. (Having practiced aikido for the
past 20 years myself...) A judoka is a certain type of budoka and an
aikidoka another type of budoka. But I do think you'll find that the terms
"judo wrestling" and "judo wrestler" are quite common if you look around a
bit...

I don't agree. There is freestyle wrestling, greco-roman wrestling, Korean
wrestling, Mongolian wrestling, sumo wrestling, Nordic wrestling, etc,
etc... And a rikishi is just a certain type of wrestler, i.e. a wrestler
who practices the traditional Japanese style of wrestling, which is called
sumo or ozumo.
I refer to Doreen's posting, as I think she hit the nail on the head,
there.
Saying that a rikishi is not a wrestler is like saying that a Ford is not a
car.
