Re: [sumo] Asashoryu in NYC photos
The Illustrious Mr Dulka proclaimed:
>>> If you refer to a rikishi as a wrestler you are wrong.
>>
and Knut Hogvall's riposte read thusly:
>>
>> Saying that a rikishi is not a wrestler is like saying that a Ford is not
> a car.
To which our esteemed logician, Mr Dulka protested:
>The KYOKAI and the
> RIKISHI want to DISTANCE themselves from PURO RESU. They don't want to be
> called 'wrestlers'. They are, but they don't want to be called that. Call it
> pride, call it stubbornness, call it whatever. I think they're entertainers,
> kings of the night, trenchermen, gamblers, wenchers, great guys, determined
> and lots of other things. But they are not what YOU PEOPLE think they are!
And I, your humble servant, scratching my head before my first cup of coffee
of the day, respectfully submit:
Stephen, you know that they are wrestlers. You say so yourself. So there
is apparently no argument between you and Mr. Hogvall on that point. Your
argument (apparently) is with the Kyokai and how they wish the sumo
practitioners to be referred to, not anyone on this list. I think. But I'm
not sure.
I'm going to go and pour myself a cup of coffee RIGHT NOW.
