Re: [sumo] more on the 1-day Nagoya tournament
There are a lot of very 'precious' people on this ML.
Personally, I don't much enjoy Mr Dulka's style either, but then I
think there are probably a lot of people who don't enjoy mine if it
comes to that. It is clear though, that he enjoys his sumo as much
as I enjoy mine, and all of the rest of you enjoy yours. That can
only be good for Sumo as a whole, and there has to be room for all
view points, and all manners of stating them.
This is not, after all, George W. Bush's and Donald Rumsfeld's USA
that we are dealing with here. Surely we are all still entitled to
say what we believe, as we think it should be said, without being
consigned to the sumo equivalent of Guantanamo Bay. When I get on my
hobby horse and berate people for not giving Asashoryu a fair go, I
obviously - from the feedback - get up some peoples' noses. I'm
sorry about that, but it will never stop me from saying it.
It is important not to throw the baby out with the bathwater when
making judgements like the ones shown below. I know there is a whole
school of thought on the ML that cannot bring itself to believe that
sumo cannot be anything but pure, pristine, right down the line,
etc., etc.
Mr Dulka is quite right in pointing out that all is not necessarily
what it seems when it comes to jungyo and similar events And that is
not even getting into the yaocho debate in honbasho, which is
something else again. It is simply Sumo as Entertainment - with a
capital E - which is what it should be seen as first and foremost.
As I have said more than once, anyone who believes in the sanctity of
Sumo probably also still believes in the tooth fairy.
I am not allying myself with Mr Dulka in any way, and I certainly am
not looking for his endorsements of my comments, because I am sure he
and I are still coming at sumo from very different perspectives. But
that is not a bad thing in any way. And I can't help feeling that
the "sanctimonious ramblings" type comments below have less currency
on the ML than his original remarks in any case.

No. He did not. Nobody is crazy enough to go all out during a non-HONBASHO
event.
Please get real.
Please stop writing falsehoods.
Enjoy SUMO as it is!
