Living in the land of the fanatic, Red Sox Nation, I can tell you first hand 
about nearly every media situation there is to know.(as can any other Red 
Sox fan).  What Jeanne says is absolutely true, up to a point.  This year, 
Pedro Martinez and Manny Ramirez were silent at the beginning of the year, 
due to the microscopic analysis that is given to Sox players by the Boston 
media, which is usually negative.  At first, this irked the media, and 
raised their ire, causing many stories to come out about their 
"personality", "loyalty", and "dedication to the city".  After a month or 
so, though, the media got bored talking to a stone wall, and then went on to 
rant about other things, and other players, letting Pedro and Manny fall 
through the cracks more often than not.

I don't know how it is in Japan, but in Boston, Asashoryu would be getting 
torn apart right now.

Gusoyama, who is chuckling thinking about Dan Shaugnessey writing an article 
about the "cold fish Asashoryu".
