It's all nice and feel good to hear their Japanese or
Mongolian reconcillation being planned between the two
but I just wish Kyokushuzan just stops talking about
this altogether.
Asashoryu is smart by keeping himself quiet by saying
he would not do the reconcillation in front of the
press. As they are both involved in a Japanese sport,
as Takasago oyakata said, the handshake should be
enough. Regardless of however they do this, it really
does not matter if one or both are not sincerely
willing to do so.
Kyokushuzan cornered the Yokozuna with reporters on
hand, Asashoryu didn't have too much choice but to
offer the handshake. He certainly could not run away
or act in any other way when he is being watched over
carefully by the Kyokai and Yokoshi group. Who knows
he may have wanted to do this Mongolian reconcillation
himself with Kyokushuzan in private but Kyokushuzan
forced the issue in public.
It's getting to be rather apparent that there are
indeed two clans of the Mongolian rikishis - one
headed by Kyokushuzan, the original clanmaster and the
new "usurper", Asashoryu. Kyokushuzan certainly
considers himself to be the top of heap by even
calling Asashoryu patronizingly, "my adorable junior"
and wishing him to win another Yusho.
Not even Yokozuna Wakanohana III did not call his
younger brother Takanohana in this manner. When the
two brothers have had a difference and the fact became
public, they eventually settled the public dispute in
private even though they have not regained their
previous close relationship they once had. Everyone
hoped they would be the two brothers they once were
but that was no longer possible as they both chosen
their own path.
The point I am trying to make is that without publicly
displaying false affection or reconcillation, they can
be civil to each other and that's all they need to do.
Whatever Mongolian or Japanese differences they may
have or to each other, they can settle them between
themselves in private, not in front of media.
Asashoryu is showing more class here than people give
credit for. While "wide show" TV people were
interviewing Kyokushuzan, Asashoryu remained quiet and
stayed outside of their goings-on and not making
comment to reporters for an invitation from
Kyokushuzan to have a drink in Sapporo. If they meet
and do this, they really don't need witnesses of
Japanese "wide-show" TV reporters to settle their
differences.
Personally I am more interested to see if Asashoryu
can come back next basho or if Musashimaru can come
back strong from his injury. If Maru shows up next
basho as he did in the last basho, he may be the
subject of the next Yokoshin meeting.
