How cool would it be if this type of thing happened these days, former 
rikishi competing with present ones for a National sumo title? would love to 
see it.

National Sumo Meet To Start on June 6

Championship Contest First Of Its Kind; Supported By Nichi Nichi

   The First National Wrestling Championship Contest will be held for three 
evenings on June 6, 7 and 8, at the Kokugikan Hall, under the auspices of 
the Japan Professional Wrestler's Association with the support of the Tokyo 
Nichi Nichi.
   The feature of the event is that several selected former champions, now 
officials of the Wrestler's Association, will compete in this contest in 
addition to senior and junior grade wrestlers.
   The championship is divided into the first division, in which senior 
grade wrestlers and some former wrestlers will compete, and the second 
division, in which junior grade wrestlers and some former wrestlers will 
compete. The winner of the first division championship will be awarded the 
Education Minister's trophy and the Tokyo Nichi Nichi medal. He will also 
receive the highest ranking as a wrestler in the association.
   On the finals day on June 8, JOAK will describe the scene between 8 and 
9 p.m. relaying to all other radio stations.
