Sumo ass'n denies 'gangster link' to Takanohana

TOKYO ? The Japan Sumo Association has informed the sports ministry of the 
circumstances under which former yokozuna Takanohana visited the office of a 
former patron with a "gangster-like man" as recently reported by more than 
one weekly magazine, sumo sources said Sunday.

In responding to requests by the Competitive Sports Division of the 
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry to clarify the 
reports, the association flatly denied any relationship between Takanohana 
and the man although it admitted the 30-year-old former grand champion did 
visit the office, according to the sources. (Kyodo News)
