Re: [sumo] Danpatsu Ceremony - Takanohana and Terao
Why did Takanohana choose these two instead of the two current Yokozuna?
(Stirring up a bit of controversy....) Could this have anything to do with
the fact that both of them are foreign? When was the last time that a
retiring Yokozuna didn't have the current Yokozunas as his dohyo-iri
seconds? Should 'Maru and 'Shoryu feel sleighted in any way?

"Another unique thing was that Takanonami and
Akinoshima assumed Tatemochi and Tsuyuharai roles for
the dohyo-iri. Traditionally the sitting yokozunas
will do the honor.
