Japan Last Week

The fifteen day "summer" Sumo tournament which ended yesterday had resulted in a "fair and equal" level-down for all, not one having emerged with an undefeated record.
Haguro and Terukuni, two Yokozuna champions, fell on the first day, and Chiyonoyama, who had won nine consecutive matches, "touched" the ground on the tenth day.
Thus the Sumo show this season has proved to be a mediocre one.
Perhaps it is an interim transition period from which all the giants have departed and the new champions have not yet arrived.
