Japan Last Week
The fifteen day "summer" Sumo tournament which ended yesterday had
resulted in a "fair and equal" level-down for all, not one having emerged
with an undefeated record.
Haguro and Terukuni, two Yokozuna champions, fell on the first day, and
Chiyonoyama, who had won nine consecutive matches, "touched" the ground on
the tenth day.
Thus the Sumo show this season has proved to be a mediocre one.
Perhaps it is an interim transition period from which all the giants
have departed and the new champions have not yet arrived.
