[Ozumo News] Yamawake Oyakata

Former Maegashira Tochifuji, Yamawake oyakata passed
away of cardiac infarction at a Tokyo Chiyoda-ward
area hospital on April 28.  He was 56 years old.  

Tochifuji joined Kasugano Beya at the Natsu Basho in
1961 and was promoted to Makuuchi in the Aki Basho of
1968 and stayed in the division for eleven
consecuetive bashos.  His higest rank was Maegashira
3rd.

After retiring in 1974, he asssumed Yamawake Toshiyori
and was an oyakata associated with Tamanoi Beya. 

The funeral is to be held at the Ekoin on May 2.
