women's sumo in Hokkaido

Hi,

Just wanted to let everyone know about the 13th annual
women's sumo tournament taking place on May 11th
(Mother's Day) in Fukushima-cho, in southern Hokkaido.
Fukushima-cho, also known around here as
yokozuna-cho, was where both Chiyonoyama and
Chiyonofuji got their starts and (correct me if I'm
wrong) I believe it is the ONLY town in Japan to
produce two yokozuna. I still haven't been down
there, but I understand that there's a great museum
dedicated to the two hometown heros. This part of
Hokkaido is beautiful -- if you haven't been up here
before, now's the perfect opportunity. And there
might still even be cherry blossoms, given that they
haven't even bloomed yet.

Anyway, the tournament is open to all women age 18 and
up -- no experience required. It only costs 2000 yen
to enter, and first prize is 100,000 yen. I sent my
application in today! For more info, check the
following webpage (in Japanese)

(now also known as Nanareizan -- I was tempted to sign
up as "Bakanohana" because I know I'm going to make a
fool of myself, but a friend talked me out of it...)
