Subject: [commentary] Part 2: impressions from the crowd at this Osaka
basho (spoilers)

Was lucky enough to be at the basho again yesterday and just a couple of
updates to my earlier comments.
Thanks to several mail list members pointing me to photos and being able to
see him in a bout yesterday, I can now confirm now that it was Roho that I
passed last Friday. Phew, good to get the right shikona for a young up and
coming rikishi and see that some of those brain cells in the more obscure
part of my brain are still working. Unfortunately yesterday he seemed to
have caught a bit of the "Takanonamis", with three mattas happening between
him and his opponent before he lost the bout.
Also on the Takamisakari phenomenon- well he's still lighting up the crowd
and yesterday his spirited win over Dejima left almost everybody in the
arena smiling and cheering- until well after the bout was over. I actually
felt sorry for Tosanoumi and Kyokutenho when they mounted the dohyo for the
next bout as even when Takamisakari was heading back down the hanamichi
after giving the chikara mizu he got another rousing round of cheering and
applause from the crowd that was more than many of the previous makuuchi
bouts had received. He seems to endear himself to all range of ages and
backgrounds. Even as he entered the arena before his bout, a rousing cheer
began, the elderly lady next to me chuckled at his cute walk and the young
man on the other side of me, laughed and muttered "Ah, Robocop". I'll be
back again today to see him, but am sure win or lose, he won't disappoint
the crowd.
Cheers, Pete.
