                          Deserting Wrestlers Form Independent Body

League Boxing Competition System Adopted; Proceeds Of First Show to Army

Thirty-two professional sumo wrestlers of the Western Camp, who tendered their resignations en bloc to the Dai Nihon
Sumo Kyokai (Japan Sumo Society) Saturday night, have decided to establish an independent organization and to introduce the
league competition system after the Western style boxing contests, into professional wrestling circles of the country.
According to their decision which was reached at the headquarters in the Shunjuen Hotel in the suburb of Tokyo Sunday
afternoon, the organization is to be known as the Dai Nihon Shinko Rikishi Kai or the Great Japan Rising Wrestlers' Body.
They also decided to hold a tournament on or about January 23 after the new system and to devote the net proceeds of the
contest to the Army to be distributed among the Japanese soldiers serving in Manchuria.
The body, according to the draft plan, is to be controlled by an executive committee comprising Musashiyama, Onosato,
Tenryu and Yamanishiki.

Divided in Three Classes
The wrestlers will be divided into three classes of A, B and C. Class A and Class B will comprise each ten wrestlers, while
Class C will consist of 12. The championship. The championship tournaments will be held twice a year, one in spring and
another in autumn.
Each of the classes will hold its own contest and the winner of each of the contests will be considered the victor of that class
for the season. The victor of the Class A competition will become the national champion for the season.
The runner-up and the winners up to fifth place in the Class A contest will be given the right to challenge the champion during
the season. the winners up to the third places of class B and Class C contests will be promoted to a grade higher each season,
whereas the losers up to the last three places of the Class A and Class B contests will be reduced to a grade below.
Challenge contests will be held outside seasons, if wanted by challengers, and the winner of the challenge bout will become
the champion. The loser will be given the right to challenge the new champion, but only once. The challenge must be a ten bouts
contest.

Officials Reject Resignation
Directors of the Japan Sumo Society, who met in Tokyo Sunday morning, decided to turn down the resignations sent in by
32 wrestlers of the Western Camp on the ground that they should be presented through Head Wrestler Dewanoumi.
Subsequently a representative of the society returned the resignations, to which Tenryu, one of the deserters, asked whether
the society would recognize their resignations or not.
The representative handed a written reply to the effect that the resignations should be submitted to Dewanoumi. The striking
wrestlers were greatly enraged when they found out that the envelope containing their resignations had been opened by the
society men.
The indignant wrestlers sent Komanishiki as their representative and handed their resignations to Dewanoumi. On the other
hand, Dewanoumi and other elder wrestlers met and decided to endeavour for the early settlement of the dispute.
