[Games] Oddsumo

hi folks,
the second oddsumo basho is over.
a quick overview:

1) zenjimotos final statement
2) individual standings
3) GTB no. 1 hamanoyama was snared after consuming
some beer at the german sumo forum meeting
and forced to do the whole banzuke job. ;-)
4) team standings
5) league standings
6) new improvements to oddsumo for january

1) zenjimotos final statement

The second running of ODD SUMO was another success,
with the Yusho decision once more delayed up to the
very last minute! Like in the Aki Basho, where
Kaikitsune overtook seemingly uncatchable leader
Gernobono on the final day with a gutsy play, this
time it was Doronohana overtaking longtime tournament
leader Gaijingai on the final day with an amazing win
factor of 22.636, to push her total to 70.856, just
2.592 points ahead of Gaijingai... ironically, had
Gaijingai NOT played the final day (he bet 3 points
ANTE and lost his bet), he would have ended up on top,
winning the Yusho by 0.408 points... hindsight is
always 20/20, as they say!

So, congratulations to Doronohana, who seems to be
turning into a real powerhouse in this game - created
by her boyfriend... and definitely holding up the
family honor here, as Rijicho Kojamuri crashed and
burned on Day 11, having used up all his ANTE points
and having to call it a basho with none left to play
:)

Doronohana also takes the BIG PLAY Award with her ANTE
of 45 points (as the most successful of all 45-point
betters). The BIG WIN Award goes to Tamanaogijima, who
waited until the final day to score the biggest win
factor of the tournament, namely a very nice 29.432.
Hasurami meanwhile takes the BIG CALM Award, as the
player with the lowest highest win factor who still
manages a Kachi-koshi. Congratulations to all sansho
winners!

Third place in the Yusho race went to Getayukata,
which with Gaijingai's Jun-Yusho pretty much sealed
the Team Yusho for The Swamp Eels (Kirinoumi rounding
out the top-3 for this Anglo-American team, while the
other two members Gochisozan and Boltono had a
whopping 0.070 points left between them) :) This win
pushed The Swamp Eels into second place in the team
league standings, behind the mighty Haridashiagare
team, who only managed sixth this basho.

Staying on the topic of team prizes, the Harmony award
goes to team Footlovers, the squad that had the
smallest difference in scores amongst their top-3
players. The Risky Award goes to Kanata-Beya, who bet
135 total ANTE points this basho (and finished second
in the team competition, by the way). On the other
hand, the Wimpy Award for coughing up the smallest win
factor goes to team MIKI!

Generally a tough, tough basho for this particular
game, as so often one seemingly impossible upset was
responsible for trashing a day's worth of work... no
less than 9 players used up all their points,
INCLUDING Aki Basho Yusho winner Kaikitsune and
Jun-Yusho winner Gernobono... amazing! Many many
newcomers pushed the participant number to 98, where
68 got their basho qualification, thank you all for
playing!

Be advised that the Odd Sumo Banzuke will henceforth
be in the very capable hands of Guess The Banzuke
World Number One, Hamanoyama, who will be compiling
our ranking list. Thanks to him for volunteering his
services!

Folks, that's it then for the Kyushu Basho 2002. I
hope you all had a great time, and to see you once
again in January!

6) new improvements to oddsumo for january

there will be a team challenge function for the
january basho,
where a team captain can challenge another team to
play
a single day for team points. the individual points of
each
team member won't be affected by this. I am reflecting
the details.
all suggestions for improvements are welcome.
I also think about short daily statements, wherefore I
would need
volunteers. I discussed this point already with
nikoshoryu
who would take the french part...
finally I was impressed by the streaming sound on
kintamayamas
new chaingang game. the captains could upload some
sound,
which is played after login by the team members. of
course everybody
would get the option to turn it off in the profile
area receive it or not...
once again, all suggestions are welcome !

all the best,
kojamuri
