Re: No matches after promotion
That never happened in modern Sumo (since 1909).
Looking through the historic Ozeki list, we find that the last Ozeki who
has only been ranked at Ozeki for one basho is Oitekaze Kitaro in
November, 1836.
In the 18th century and earlier the phenomenon of one-basho Ozeki is
quite common because of the practice of promoting local heroes to that
rank to attract crowds to the basho.
