Re: "hapless yokozuna"
I fully expect that when he retires Musashimaru will
be sitting in the top 5 for most yusho in career right
behind Takanohana. He is only 3 behind Wajima.
I figure he will be in the top 5 for match wins right
behind or right in front of Takanohana.
He currently ranks 4th all time in top division wins
with a high likelihood of passing Chiyonofuji's all
time record of 807 wins. Depending on what happens
with Taka he will rank either #1 or #2 barring major
injury.
This based on assumptions of maybe 2-3 more years of
solid sumo from Musashimaru.
He is already on these lists. If he never enters
another match he is already one of the top 10 Yokozuna
of the past 100 years according to the statistics.
Anyone who bashes Maru saying he doesn't deserve his
rank or is somehow a poor example of a Yokozuna is
foolish. I would say that he is surpassing the
accomplishments of Akebono and is light years ahead of
anything any of the 3 Wakanohana's did. Really since
Chiyonofuji the only rikishi with higher
accomplisments is Takanohana and some of his total
numbers might well be surpassed by Maru.
