RE: What kind of exercise is hanashite?
I contacted Sumo Club at Hiroshima Univ. and got an answer to the question.
"Hanashite" is a type of squat exercises with put your legs wider than
your shoulders, put your both elbows around your navel, keep your upper body
upright and lower your hips. When you go up, keep your hands and arms position
and pushing your hips and belly slightly forward and keep your upper body
upright. Repeat the exercise cycle over and over again.
The position is very similar to the position of "suri-ashi" exercise in sumo.
The advanced rikishi do this exercise with a sandbag on their arms, as well as
for suri-ashi exercise.
The person who gave me the answer said that he has not heard this particular
word used by people from other college. He does not know if "hanashi-te" is
a standard terminology used commonly in general sumo community.
