Yes, extensively, the meanings are the same as in English (for cars, etc);
but as already pointed out, in case of sumo the word might be somewhat
ambiguous and too many people who would still associate it with horses or
cattle. As for me, I try to avoid ECURIE myself, replacing it by CONFRERIE
which clearly insists on "community of people". I don't know how many
people would use the word ECURIE. I noticed that all the people I've spoken
to agree on CONFRERIE (which has something "traditional").
