THE KOKUGI-KWAN.
Two days after the opening of the newly-completed wrestling amphitheatre
near the Ryogoku bridge on the 2nd inst., the spring matches are now in
progress, attracting a large crowd of spectators and the house is always
full with wrestling lovers. The first day of the series successfully came
off on Saturday. Instead of an improvised tent in which hitherto the
wrestling was carried out and the audience was badly accommodated, the whole
scene was changed in the new gigantic dome and the deep red carpet below
aglow with the new paint of snowy white in the ceiling and wall around.
Every pair of wrestlers of strong muscular physique was received with éclat
whenever they appeared in the ring and tournaments were eagerly watched by
the audience. Conspicuous figures in the day's result were as follows:-

Hitachiyama Otori
Ikarigata Isenohama
Kunimiyama Chitosegawa
Nishinoumi Umegatani
Second Day
