Re: Calling all sumo scholars



Here's a question for the eccentric sumo 
historians on this list. In the 1954 Haru Basho, 
Daitenryu (later known as Kaizan) won the Kanto-
sho, the first and only sansho of his career. In 
Kyodo's 2002 Rikishi Directory, he is listed as 
a rank I've never heard of. The kanji looks like 
it can be read as "chozen" or "harimae", but I 
can't find that kanji compound in any of my 
dictionaries. Any ideas what it is? Thanks for 
the help.

It's merely an abbreviatation of "haridashi 
maegashira".
