Although this might appear to be a new idea, it is far from such. In the
Japan Times on May 13th 1941 there was the following article. I don't know 
when it was stopped however. Maybe after the Kokugikan was destroyed/taken 
over by the foreign troups a few years later. Also the politically incorrect 
terminology was as per the article.

In the pandemonium that reigns throughout the Kokugikan arena immediately 
after every important bout, it is an impossibility to hear the decision and 
other important details of the results, especially when one is seated way up 
in "nigger heaven". Hence, for the use of these customers, special 
audiphones have been installed at a minimum charge of 30 sen per day.
