OI> Good point, chad. For the record, Takatoriki's yusho was the 2000 Haru,
OI> where he fought out of the M14 slot. He started 12-0, but didn't fight
OI> anyone higher than M9 in the first six days--and no one higher than M6 in
OI> the first 10. During the last five days, he met Tousanoumi at Komusubi,
OI> Musoyama and Miyabiyama at Sekiwake, and Akebono and Musashimaru at
OI> Yokozuna. He lost to the two Yokozuna--but 13-2 was enough for the yusho
OI> (Akebono and Musoyama both finished 12-3 and Takanohana ond Musashimaru were
OI> both 11-4).

That was really exciting. There were tears in his eyes as he accepted the Cup.
I think he deserved it, but it's certainly true that his luck was also very
good. For him, it was the chance of a lifetime. I don't think anyone gave it
to him gratis. On the other hand, it's possible that he was underestimated by
everyone for a while there. His tachiai was consistent and he had gotten a
certain rhythm that was working for him.
