Maybe the one you mentioned was performed when "Houon-kosiki-zumou 
(the old style sumo to repay (the Emperor Syouwa for his favor))" was 
held at Kokugikan.
The last one was performed by Takanohana and Akebono at the Ise shrine 
in 1996.
