Taka may miss two tourneys

Yokozuna Takanohana has had bone chips removed from his right knee and needs
at least three months' rest, Japan Sumo Association officials said Monday.

The 28-year-old Takanohana underwent surgery in a Paris hospital last
Thursday after being diagnosed with a broken kneecap, which he sustained
during the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament in May.

Officials said it is expected that he will be kept out of the next two
tournaments in September and November following his absence from the Nagoya
basho earlier this month.

Takanohana received the injury in a bout against ozeki Musoyama on the 14th
day of the summer tournament in May before winning his 22nd Emperor's Cup in
a playoff victory over fellow-yokozuna Musashimaru the next day.

The Futagoyama stable wrestler left for Paris on July 23 to receive detailed
examinations, treatment, and undergo rehabilitation.

The French hospital was reportedly recommended to Takanohana and his
handlers by Japan national soccer coach Philippe Troussier
